A Journey to Khuzestan, March 2010
Ahmad Nadalian
I was invited by the Faculty of Art in Shostar to travel to South West of
Iran, Khuzestan, in March 2010.

While I was reviewing my
works, the students were preparing for the ceremony of Persian New Year.

The boys lost.

I carved a frog

This was the day after I
visited Shadegan.

One of my students,
Sajirati showed me this beautiful location

Ç
From Shadegan, we traveled to Khoramshahr. During the war of 1982, when
Sadam Hossien’s army attacked Iran, they occupied the city of Khoramshahr.
During the war, I traveled to Khoramshahr. I was a student of Fine Art in
Painting back then.

My drawing of an
Iranian-Arab during the war in Khuzestan

öDuring
the war I made many drawings of the soldiers.

In April 2006, my students
assisted me to install these keys in one of the streets of Tehran.

I suppose when the war
started, people in Khoramshahr locked their homes and left the city. When
the war ended, they wanted to return home, but their homes were destroyed.
Therefore, they did not need their keys anymore.

More than 25 years ago the
war in Khoramshahr ended. But the damage left by the bullets is still
evident on the houses.

I saw birds that made
their nest inside these foramens.

Yet there are many more birds who need nests.
Yet there are
more holes that need nests.

This wall reminds me of the artworks done by Charles Simonds. Artists are
against vandalism and politicians who destroy the world.
